On Sunday, Dec. 13, Mayor Vega and the Board of Commissioners hosted a Holiday Party for the special needs children of Hudson County. The party is co-sponsored by the Winning Angels of Hudson County, and was held at the Sunshine Gardens Community Center, located at 515 54th Street, beginning at 10 a.m.
Santa and Mrs. Claus delivered toys to each of the little girls and boys in attendance, and took pictures with them as well.

On Tuesday, Dec. 8, the Honorable Mayor Silverio A. Vega and the West New York Board of Commissioners kicked off the holiday season with the annual town hall and tree lighting ceremony.
While members of the community huddled together to watch the ceremony, the West New York Recreational Cheerleaders provided some holiday spirit,. and kids got a special early visit from Santa Claus.

This Saturday, Dec. 12, West New York hosted its annual district wide Holiday Party for all third graders from the public and private schools of West New York.
Sponsored by the honorable Mayor Silverio A. Vega, in collaboration with the West New York Women’s Club, and West New York Police Department, kids arrived at the West New York Middle School for a day of fun activities and special guest appearances by Santa Claus, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and MacGruff the Crime Dog. The kids also enjoyed a magic act and a performance by the West New York Recreational Cheerleaders.
Many kids went home with various donated prizes, which were raffled off and included toys, bikes, iPods, and even laptops. Funds collected from Mayor Vega’s birthday party fundraiser went to purchasing many of the prizes. Each child, who won a prize, also took a picture with Santa Claus.
The party ran from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m, and all children received a t-shirt and goody bag to take home as they left the party.

Swearing-In Ceremony of New Police Director Albert L. Bringa
On Wednesday, Dec. 2, the Honorable Mayor Silverio A. Vega and the West New York Board of Commissioners held the swearing-in of the West New York Police Department’s new Police Director Albert L. Bringa. The ceremony took place at Public School No. 4, located at 6300 Palisade Ave., at 6 p.m.
“I am very happy to have someone of the quality of Director Bringa, as we continue with the tradition of having a police director who lives in town,” said Mayor Vega.
“I would like to thank Mayor Vega for this opportunity he has given me, so that I can go out and continue to serve the community as I have for the past 25 years,” said Bringa. “I thank him for his confidence and his belief in me.”
“I look forward to bringing in organization to the Police Department, to meet goals, to work as one, and to strive to working for common ground.”
Born and raised in West New York, Lt. Albert Bringa has been with the West New York Police Department for almost 25 years, and was responsible to initiating the D.A.R.E. Program in West New York in 1990. Bringa has also served as coordinator for town’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and coordinator for the town’s Emergency Medical Service (EMS).

Town of West New York Veteran’s Day 2009
On Wednesday, Nov. 11, the Joint Veterans Affairs Committee - in conjunction with the Honorable Mayor Silverio A. Vega and the West New York Board of Commissioners – sponsored West New York’s annual Veteran’s Day commemoration. The event took place by the Veterans Monument, located at 56th Street and Boulevard East.
Joining in to celebrate the men and women of the armed forces was the Memorial High School Marching Band performing the National Anthem and other ensembles, as well as the Memorial High School Buglers, who honored the fallen with the traditional rendition of Taps.
In addition, Assistant Superintendent of Schools John Fauta led the attendants in the Pledge of Allegiance, MHS student Madeline Leon delivered a poetry reading, and the benediction was led by Rev. John Sharpe of Trinity Reform Church.
